Marcellus Hall is an American illustrator based in the lower east side of Manhattan. His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The Wall Street Journal, The Atlantic, Time, American Illustration, Communication Arts annuals. His first cover for The New Yorker was published in 2005.

Hall has illustrated children’s books which includes, Because You Are My Baby (Abrams 2008), City I Love (Abrams 2009), The Cow Loves Cookies (Simon & Schuster 2010), Because I Am Your Daddy (Abrams 2010), Full Moon and Star (Abrams 2011), Because I Am Your Teacher (Abrams 2012), What's New? The Zoo! (Scholastic 2014) Duddle Puck: The Puddle Duck (Simon & Schuster 2015), and the self-penned Everyone Sleeps (Penguin 2013).

Hall recently held a solo show at MaxFish in March of 2017, this legendary bar is where many icons such as Johnny Depp, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, Kiki Smith, Tom Otterness, Shepard Fairey, and other now-famous artist have gathered and presented their works in the past. Hall has also painted one of the most significant murals in the lower east side of Manhattan as part of the “100 Gates” project in 2015.

Being also active as a musician, Hall has recorded with bands Railroad Jerk and White Hassle, and has toured throughout the US, Europe, and Japan. He continues to make music under his own name; with solo albums titled The First Line (2011) and Afterglow (2013).

Originally from Minnesota, Hall holds a BFA in illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design. Upon graduation, he would then move to New York where he currently resides.
