Profile

Born in Germany in 1944, Valtchev who was raised in Bulgaria and now based in New York, creates sculptures, paintings and prints. During his long career since 1969, his works have been introduced to many countries including, the US, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Holland and others. His prints are in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), the New York Public Library, the National Gallery of Art (Washington DC), the National Library in Paris (France), the Geneva History Museum (Switzerland), and in a several other major American and European museums.

Valtchev studied art in various schools and received his Professional Diploma from Fordham University. He did an art conservation internship at Louvre Museum Paris, received BA from University of Stockholm and an MFA from Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Stockholm. Prior to this, he also studied sculpture at Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and art conservation at The University of Copernicus (Poland). He taught art at the University of Maryland and in a number of colleges in New York; New York University and The Cooper Union.
